Love the idea of this curriculum. Just wondering if it is American based or if it can be used for alternate English spelling.

Robin

Jeigh,
We don’t have separate versions, but people in many different countries that use British English use our programs. The teachers and parents adjust for the few spelling differences as they teach. One New Zealand parent told us, “In fact, my daughter learnt those words easier because they became discussion points!”

We’ve received suggested alterations from a few different customers for those using British spelling/pronunciation. Sometimes Americans need to make slight alterations based on regional pronunciation as well, so make changes that are helpful to you and your child. In the reading program, if the suggested pronunciation seems to vary from the way you speak, simply teach your pronunciation for the phonogram or word. Very few spelling words actually need to be changed. Some people will just omit them, and others might choose to teach that word with the British spelling.

If you would like a document with the few suggested changes to help with British spelling, please email us at support@allaboutlearningpress.

All About Reading and All About Spelling are the best! My ADHD oldest son is thriving on the rule-based approach of All About. My middle son knows all the phonemes even better than his brother, because he’s a good memorizer and has been watching the cards go by, including those ahead of his level, for a long time. The stories are fun and funny, and the language is not stilted, as it is in so many other beginning readers. And we have been really enjoying the seasonal activities we’re getting by email–we did several for Christmas and a couple for Valentine’s Day too. It has been fun to challenge ourselves by trying the Level 3 and Level 4 words, for which we haven’t yet learned the rules–such a sense of accomplishment when the boys can figure them out. Keep ’em coming! My oldest is about to finish Level 2 reading and move on to Level 3. We’re looking forward to it. I think it may be about time to get the Pre-Reading set for my littlest guy. He’s very excited to point out the letters he recognizes in the world around him. Thank you, always, for this wonderful program.

When looking for a curriculum to help teach my son how to read, All About Reading came highly recommended by other homeschool moms. I can’t begin to tell you the difference it has made for him. We started slow, but after a few months he was off to the races, so to speak. We have now graduated to All About Spelling Level 3, and he is still flourishing. I can’t say enough good things about the program and I recommend it to everyone!

Kimberly Snyder

says:

I love tutoring students using the ALL programs…in-person and via Zoom. It is pretty impressive to I have siblings arguing over who goes first for their reading and spelling lessons! After years of teaching in public and private schools, I love this solid program that can easily be adapted to fit my students’ needs. I have students that didn’t like the word lists, phrases, and sentences in their workbooks who absolutely “love them” now! We (my student, siblings, etc.) predict how many stars the student will get for the lesson’s pages. I use stars (fluent words), checks (sounded out words), and circles (words student couldn’t decode correctly) above each word and then we count and add (math skills practice) when the student is finished with the page(s). I have older students who are excellent readers who are working with me on spelling lessons. Lots of “ah-ah’s” as to why words end in ‘k’ or ‘ck’, learning the various jobs of the silent e, etc.
